Brown banded and German cockroaches are common in homes, apartments, restaurants, supermarkets, hospitals, and other buildings where food is stored, prepared, or served. They eat food of all kinds and may hitchhike into the home on egg cartons, soft drink cartons, sacks of potatoes or onions, used furniture, beer cases, etc. These roaches will move from building to building during the warm summer months. They can develop into large populations and live throughout the home, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. Roaches can foul food, damage wallpaper and books, eat glue from furniture, and produce an unpleasant odor. Some homeowners are allergic to roaches, and the pests can contaminate food with certain bacterial diseases that result in food poisoning, dysentery, or diarrhea.
Cockroach control relies upon a conscientious effort from both the pest control operator and the client. Success definitely doesn’t occur overnight but following these few instructions will get very good results within four weeks of our treatment.
1. Keep the areas where cockroaches have been found scrupulously clean. This involves keeping the floor and other areas free of food scraps and grease. Unwashed dishes should not be left in the sink or over the kitchen counters overnight. Don’t leave garbage in the garbage bin overnight. Food should never be consumed in any place other than the meal area. Do not store cardboard boxes and paper for any period longer than necessary.
2. Fill or block off any cracks and crevices that provide hiding areas for cockroaches. Dripping taps should have washers replaced as this may provide water that they can drink.
